My Normandy

I was in third year of college and making the grades. My goal was to study medicine. That summer the school invited me to spend a semester in Normandy, France, for a study abroad program. Sounded lovely, except the syllabus included History and English courses. With English as my second language, I was so terrified of writing bad essays and bringing down my GPA that I declined the invitation. An opportunity like it never came up again in my educational life. Years later, I still regret my decision. Despite extensive travels, I have not seen Normandy yet. But this is what I realized: we learn the world by experiencing it not reading about it. Since then, I have tried to take every travel opportunity that comes my way.
