Apathetic Team

After my divorce, I drowned myself in the world of exercise and fitness. In fact, spending time at the gym took precedence over any aspect of my life. I would push my assistants to work hard throughout the day so that I could finish work by a certain time and leave. I didn’t show a spirit of camaraderie with my team. I became disconnected from them as well as the people we were trying to serve. Before long, they started mirroring my behavior. Instead of staying on to help other teams, they would flee the premises as soon as we were done. With more perspective, I learned that despite what goes on in my private life, my job as a team leader is to model appropriate behaviors. If I show apathy, so will my team and in the end, performance suffers.
