Don’t Bring Work Home

During my marriage, I threw myself into work. It was a stressful job and consumed most of my waking hours. If I were not there, I was thinking about it. There is, of course, a difference between thinking about a job with excitement and creativity versus negativity and anger. My thoughts belonged to the latter category. I was typically so exhausted that I lost sight of priorities. On my (then) husband’s birthday, I came home with a cupcake. That’s all. That’s how I acknowledged his birthday. No present, no special dinner, only a cupcake. He never complained, but looking back I realized how thoughtless my behavior had been. We are no longer together; however, now I try to be more aware of my behavior as it relates to work and my new partner.
