Sleeping Pills are a bad idea

During college I worked part-time and held down 5 volunteer positions. Needless to say, I was a bit stressed out. I don’t handle stress well at the best of times, but when I am burning the candle at both ends I become extra irritable. I finally saw my doctor, who recognized that I was severely sleep deprived and couldn’t fall asleep due to my overwhelming workload (this would pay off one day). He prescribed me sleeping pills. I finally started sleeping like a baby which was great, but they had some side effects. My morning classes were complete write-offs. I started fighting with my eyes as my lids felt like heavy weights and slowly closed. I tried everything to stay awake – coffee, pinching myself, fidgeting. Nothing worked. The low point was when I went to ask my instructor a question during office hours and she told me that I would know the answer if I wasn’t sleeping in class all of the time. I was mortified.
