Take responsibility for your emotions

At some point, I realized that to a large extent, we control how we react to the emotions that arise in us. I would constantly harbor thoughts of sadness about things in the world but then one day realized, “What if I went out and tried to make other people feel happy? Would I feel happy then?” Indeed, this tactic works well: if you try to make others happy, you can become happy yourself. I decided not to passively be sad then from that day on but whenever I was sad, to do something about it! We are not merely the slaves of our emotions and have the freedom to take some action – so think about how you can get out of a “funk” and start grooving to some funk music!
